Sailability provides sailing opportunites for people with a disability regardless of their ability, mobility or circumstances. A variety of vessels are utilised, from small stable two-person dinghies to 20 foot and larger yachts. We also have the use of a rigid motorised pontoon from Fishability. The sailing areas are safe protected waters and all activities are supported by a safety boat.

SAILABILITY WA

Sailability WA Inc is a 'Not for Profit', Incorporated Association, organised by an Operational Committee and a part-time Co-ordinator. The programs are run by trained and experienced Volunteers. It is governed by a constitution and has audited accounts. It is dependent on the generousity of private donations and sponsorship, limited government grants, and its Volunteers, who are passionate about sharing their love of sailing with people with disabilities.

Sailability WA began following the Gold Medal success of Noel Robins, Jamie Dunross and Graeme Martin at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, when Royal Perth Yacht Club developed a programme for people with disabilities to participate in mainstream Club sailing activities, from trying sailing through to club racing and high performance/elite competitions.

Today the Sailability WA program offers three integrated levels of activity; Supported Sailing, Club Racing and Training, and High Performance/Elite Competition Sailing.

SAILABILITY PROGRAMS HOSTED BY ROYAL PERTH YACHT CLUB

They can be assisted by a support worker or family member or be completely independent They sail in easily accessible, stable and safe boats under the control of an experienced skipper. The Hansa 2-person dinghy Class has been specifically designed to be extrememly stable and simple to operate. Several larger yachts are also utilised, which can accommodate more participants. Hoists are available to transfer wheelchair users into the boats provided. All Volunteers are trained in safety and first aid, and a support powerboat is provided for all activities.
