Sue Williams Cup

Tigers Retain Trophy

Nineteen (19) Willetton Tigers WABL teams competed against teams from Joondalup Wolves in their annual pre-WABL Season clash, vying for the Sue Williams Cup, on Sunday 7 April 2019.

Joondalup Wolves kindly hosted the Tournament this year due to our Stadium expansion for which we are truly grateful.

In a closely fought contest, both Associations were neck and neck (8 wins each) before the final fixtured games commenced at 12 noon.

However by the end of those last 3 games, Tigers teams won 2 of them, resulting in a 10 games to 9 games result - the Trophy will return to our Stadium for another year YAY!!!

Well done to those players and their families who travelled to HBF Arena in Joondalup for this Event, your support is much appreciated.

A huge thanks also to Peta Small, our Shot Clock Operator and to Neville Rutter and his team of Referees for taking the time to officiate our games.

The Sue Williams Cup is named after Sue Williams, the first women's State Basketball League player to reach 500 games. Williams began her career in the SBL back in 1990 with the Willetton Tigers where she went on to amass 361 of her now 500 matches. She also won four championships with the Tigers in six grand final appearances before making the move to join the Wanneroo Wolves where she played 6 seasons.
