Tigers pumped for weekend away

Willetton Tigers SBL head coach Steve Black says the Tigers are looking forward to spending quality time together as they head to Kalgoorlie this weekend to take on the Goldfields Giants.

The Tigers will be getting ready for an early start tomorrow morning, as they are set to leave Perth at 5 30am and will be travelling to Kalgoorlie together by bus.

Despite the early wake up call, Black says the team look forward to having the opportunity to bond as a team.

“There is an excitement there… it’s these opportunities for the guys to spend time with each other and hang out with their friends while there’s really no distractions.” Black said.

“There’s not going to be any mobile reception, no commitments, there’s not a lot of work that can be done, so the players certainly enjoy that time together.

“Some injured players also have the opportunity to come and they’re really looking forward to having the chance to spend time with the guys too.”

The Tigers will be staying in shared accommodation for the night, bunking with the Men’s and Women’s D-league teams who are also set to play this weekend.

“We’re staying in the same place where we can house a lot of people… we’re a walk from the train station and a walk from the stadium… it’s a good central place for us all to be.” Black said.

“We certainly enjoy having the opportunity to hang out and spend some time after the game together.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to sit down in the rooms and get to unwind as people rather than just players and coaches.”

Despite the excitement surrounding their weekend away, the Tigers know that they will be facing a challenge when they take on the Giants.

“The Giants are going to be super pumped up for this game, they’ve had a couple of losses that they probably would’ve expected to get,” Black said.

“We’re under no illusions … they’ve got a lot of talent and they’re going to be as fired up as you can get to win this game.

“It’s going to mean a lot to them, and I hope I’ve gotten across that it means a lot to us too.”

The Tigers will take on the Giants this Saturday at 7.30pm at Niels Hansen Basketball Centre.
