With the NEAFL competition kicking off round three last weekend, new recruits to the competition have had a chance to show us what they are made of.

Ainslie’s standout recruit Nick Salter has certainly proved himself a handy addition to the Tri Colours line-up, being named in the best every week so far.
Salter, who made the move to Ainslie from Port Adelaide this year, has had a huge impact on the side. Not only is he a leading goal kicker in the competition, but he is also a great presence around the club.
Ainslie Coach Chris Rourke states that Salter has been hugely beneficial to the side this year.
“He is an excellent trainer and incredibly talented on the field, but he has been just as beneficial off the field. He sets a great example to the younger players and has really brought the AFL experience to the side,” Rourke said
Another recruit to the NEAFL competition this year is Belconnen player and Coach Jeremy Rowe. Rowe has been based in Adelaide since leaving Wagga in 2007 and has plenty of experience to lead the Belconnen players.
As well as being named in the team’s best on the weekend, Rowe has also helped the club take a new direction and has given the side a fresh start, despite it not reflecting on the scoreboard so far.
Former Tuggeranong player Daniel Johnson signed with the Queanbeyan Tigers this year, and Matt Denham, a player from country victoria, who also played a game for Tuggeranong last year on a permit, has joined the Eastlake side.
Although both players have gone in different directions this year, they have both proven that they are still great competitors in the competition.
Denham played his first game for Eastlake on the weekend, and although the side couldn’t put a win next to their name, he was still named in the best. Denham is a strong competitor in the midfield and Coach Anthony Bourke says that he has been a great asset to the team.
“He is still young and learning, but he is footy smart. He is strong around the contest and that is something we are really focusing on this year,” Bourke said
Whilst all the Canberra teams have a tough year ahead of them, the new recruits will not go down without a fight.
