Skiff Report | 25 March 2018

The last race for the season at Belmont and the Club Championship and Point Score were both on the line. Fire Stopping had a lead over Weathertex in the point score. The Club Championship had TJS, Redicrete & East Coast Marine & Sail neck and neck. The Young Guns on TJS showed their composure and skill and scorched away into the lead up the first work. From there they controlled the race and never looked like they’d be beaten, they covered their opponents to perfection in the tricky Nor’Westerly breeze. East Coast also sailed a great race. The East Coast have a good turn of speed both upwind and downwind and they sailed into 2nd spot both in the race and overall. Next home was Minder who bounced back to form, the boats were changing positions a lot in the gusty breeze that faded as the race went on and Minder did well to get the final podium position. Redicrete was back in the pack but came back to get 4th in the race and 3rd overall, they just snuck past Insight Building on the line. Others to race in the lead pack were Fire Stopping and Piper Planning. It was a good day for the Makin family, while Henry and Grant were taking out the scratch win, their younger brother Jordan steered KOFM into 1st place on handicap. KOFM had perhaps their best race of the season nipping at the heels of the lead pack throughout the race. Weathertex sailed well, especially in the early stages of the race and finished in 5th place on handicap. This result was enough to reel in the points deficit they needed to and take out the point score.
