Sprint Series 2017

The Sprint Series has been run & won again for 2017.
The light patchy breeze did improve a little as the day progressed, though the Nor’Easter never filled as many of the competitors were hoping for.

As is usual for this event there were some big upsets and some top boats missed out on making the semi-finals. The pink group saw the biggest boilover with most of the more fancied boats in that group all getting knocked out before the semi’s.
After a close fought semi-final series, the Finals had 8 boats all keen to take home the Cup.

“Fluid Building” sailed superbly to win the event. After a long day on the water some of the finalists looked to be fading but the fitness of the “Fluid” team (Clint Bowen, Matt Wark & Brent Dennis) kept them firing on all cylinders. It was interesting that this victory was the first major sailing trophy that “Fluid” sheethand Matty Wark has won. Matty is one of the all-round good guys of the fleet so it was great to see him get a well deserved win.

The Fluid boys also showed their great sportsmanship when during their victory speech made mention of our Director Mike Skully who recently passed away.

The Belmont Club had the boats all fly black ribbons in honour of Mike’s contribution to our Club and for Clint to make special mention of this meant a lot to us all, thanks Clint.

The “Brydens” came in 2nd with Youngsters Kurt Hansen and Harry Morton joining Pete onboard.
Rounding out the podium was the “Fire Stopping”.

Thanks go to James Bury, Michael Chittenden, Tilly and Josh for getting the livestream and photography up at Belmont for the event and also to Morgo who did a fantastic job as guest commentator.
Thanks to all our volunteers, this event is a long day on the water and your efforts are appreciated.
