Weekend Racing Report 21/22 February

The Pelican’s had their Pirate Fun Day on Saturday which was a great morning of dress-ups and adventure! A nice gentle breeze saw the armada of pirate galleons & caravels following the directions of the treasure map which set out the course down to Dead Man’s Point (the slips!) where the pirates raced ashore to collect their gold coin treasure!

We had “Old Salt” Simon B aboard the Grafitti with ace Captain Cameron B who navigated their way back to home base the fastest. Slingshot (Peg Leg Kurtis S & Squidlips Taj W) were next followed by Wot da Heck (Scallywag Beau C & Rapscallion Ronan P). The first of our “Sail On” FEVA Pirate Ships back to base was ably skippered by Lady Lily P with Miss Nicola B.

A BBQ lunch for our Pelican sailing families rounded off a fun morning on the water for the kids.

Thank you to our extra support boat & crew (Gary T & Col S) who kept an eye on our juniors.

Saturday afternoon saw point score racing for our other fleets on an overcast and light wind day! We also held non-point score racing for our Flying 11s as some of the fleet were in Sydney for the final races of their State Championship (See separate report)

On Sunday our skiffs raced point score 18 in honour of Kevin Buxton, Life Member and long-time President of our Club.

Straight Azz Wall & Floor Tiling enjoyed the light easterly wind to take the race from KOFM 102.9 (Greg S, wade C, Rohan K) with Southern Beach Rugby (Rod C, Adam G, Nicholas H) in third. Handicap honours went to The Butchers @ Swansea (Grant S, Gary J, Craig H), 2nd IGT (Trevor F, Daniel G, Dylan N), 3rd Newcastle Herald (Graeme Mc, James G, Paul H).

We also had a new skiff crew join the B16ftSC fleet, Graeme T, Donald C and Tim H aboard “Living the Dream” – welcome guys!

The weekend also saw the completion of the Third Quarterly Point Score – 1st KOFM 102.9, 2nd Pepsi Max (Ross S, Shane B, Ben P), 3rd IGT. Currently leading the Second Half Yearly Point Score – KOFM (naturally!) and the Yearly Point Score is close between IGT and The Butchers @ Swansea with Insight Building Services still within reach!
