2018 Summer Bright Lager Australian 16ft Skiff Sprint Series & Belmont Bay Regatta
The Summer Bright Lager Australian 16ft Skiff Sprint Series is always an anticipated event and this year attracted 50 entries.
A South Easterly breeze was blowing across Belmont Bay with rain squalls occasionally making the conditions quite challenging. With 5 boats advancing through from the initial rounds the racing was intense.
2017-18 Australian Champions Manly Surf & Slide dominated Semi Final 1 with their big rig in and the 17-18 runners up, Brydens were the top boat in Semi Final 2 with a small rig.
The spectators had a great view of the racing and during the final series the 16’s balconies were packed with people cheering on their favourite skiffs.
All 10 of the finalists changed to small rig and the Brydens drew first blood with a victory in race 1. Redicrete was 2nd and TJS came in 3rd.
Brydens again won race 2 and apart from an unforeseen disaster had the title in the bag. Manly Surf & Slide hit back in race 2 to claim 2nd spot and East Coast Marine & Sail rounded out the podium in this race.
The last race of the final series had TJS claim a well-deserved victory with Manly Surf & Slide 2nd and Redicrete in 3rd.
