Skiff Report | 21 January 2018

The 16 footers had their annual Pulbah Island Race on Sunday and for the first time this season [in Club Racing} the fleet had the small rigs in.

Redicrete led the fleet around the first mark with Empty Jets and Compass close behind. The skiffs had a great ride as they charged towards Wangi Wangi point.

Empty Jets was flying downwind and after a short 2-sail reach to round the point the kites were reset and Empty Jets hit the lead between Wangi and Pulbah.

Flano and his team sailed the patchy breeze down behind the Island brilliantly and opened up a gap. Compass did well on this part of the course as well but perhaps the biggest mover was Fire Stopping who came into contention. Between Sunken Rock and Wangi Wangi Point on the way back Redicrete regained the lead with Fire Stopping showing good speed upwind to get into 2nd spot.

While the 1st part of the race was tough on the bowman the next section was about the sheethands as the skiffs 2-sailed to Coal Point. On the work back to Belmont Tom Crockett steered Compass into 2nd spot.

Newcastle Psychiatry sailed a great race to grab the handicap win. IGT also did really well.
