Flying 11 States on the Ocean off Cronulla!

The first five heats of the Flying 11 NSW State Championship were held in Cronulla over the weekend with 10 of our crews racing with a fleet of 59 boats.

Racing was conducted on Bate Bay which is open to the ocean swells, so wind and wave conditions would be very new to our crews! A bit unnerving when you are sailing in rolling waves with surfers on the wave break not too far away!

Our top five B16ftSC crews all had good individual top 10 race results.  Hammertime (Tom D & Brin L) are sitting in 7th overall, with a couple of 4th place race results.  Silly Galah (Thomas S & Cameron B) posted two 8th places to sit in 9th overall.  Oscar (Jed F & William B) are in 11th place with a 5th & 6th place.  Hydromatic's (Rebecca H & Eve P) best race place is an 8th to put them in 13th and the fast improving Flight Time (Marcus L & Beau P) posted an impressive 4th in the windy race 3 to currently sit in 15th overall.  Spitfire (James R & Angus J) posted two great results (2 x 15th) on the Sunday to put them in 18th overall.  Ondalay (Aimee G & Chelsea W) also posted some consistent results to see them sitting in 24th place.

Sudden Impact (Sarah H & Jacinta A) unfortunately missed four races due to another boat running into them and making their boat unsailable. The girls went to the protest room and were granted redress for the races missed. Hot Chilli (Kelsey T & Georgia S) are sitting in 48th place just ahead of clubmates Holy Smokes (Felix P & Rhys M) in 49th.

Such a great experience for our crews to go and race in big fleets on unfamiliar waters, learning different sail trim to keep your boat moving fast in the different conditions - we are very proud of your efforts kids - keep on learning!

The next round of State Championship heats will be in February sailed on Pittwater from the Avalon Sailing Club (that will be a bit more like our lake!).
