State Youth Championship results

Congratulations to our youth sailors who travelled to Sydney over the long weekend to sail in the NSW State Youth Championship on Botany Bay.

The sailing conditions are quite different down there to our Lake with tide and a different wave pattern (in certain wind directions) so we hope everyone enjoyed the opportunity to challenge their sailing skills and learn something new!

Our 29er crews posted some great results, with Tom C & Tom G (NHS Plasterboard & Timber) keeping 2014 World Champion Kurt Hansen on his toes!  “The Tom’s” finished in 2nd place only two points behind Kurt and 21 points ahead of 3rd.  Both Tom S & Henry S (2261) and John C & Simon H (Coolski) posted some good consistent results to finish in 6th & 7th respectively.  Emma J & Lucas G (Nirvana) finished in 17th overall and 5th female skipper.

Laser 4.7 sailor, Paige C finished 28th overall having to carry a BFD.  Her best placing was an 8th in Race 4 from a fleet of 33.

The Flying 11 fleet faced some tough competition from a couple of Tasmanians who were a bit more attuned to sailing in tide!  Thomas S & Cameron B (Silly Galah) punched out some great placings, posting a couple of 3rds , a 4th and a 5th to finish in 5th place overall.  Jed F & William B (Oscar) suffered a BFD (in a race they finished 3rd), but also took a race win in Race 1 and a 2nd to place 7th overall.  Rebecca H & Eve P (Hydromatic) sailed an impressive series as a new skipper to place 8th overall, their best race result a 3rd.  We then had a bunch of B16ftSC boats, Tom D & Beau C (Hammertime) in 11th, James R & Angus J (Spitfire) in 13th, Marcus L & Beau P (Flight Time) in 15th unfortunately also with a BFD but also posting a fantastic 3rd place in Race 6.  Aimee G & Chelsea W (Ondalay) coped a BFD in Race 2 but held on for 16th overall, Felix P & Rhys M (Holy Smokes) finished in 18th, Sarah H & Jacinta A (Sudden Impact) were 21st and Karma R & Genevieve V (Blue Bird) in 22nd.

We would like to record our sincerest thanks to Simon Burt who took his own RIB to the Championship and offered coaching and on-water regatta support to all the B16ftSC kids in the Flying 11 fleet.  We really appreciate your support Simon.
