Blues Midfielder Wins Armstrong Medal

Peni Mahina from Campbelltown Blues has captured the Armstrong Medal in the Division Four competition after a dominant season.

Mahina polled an amazing 27 votes to finish three votes ahead of Holroyd Parramatta Jordan Pidgeon in a high polling count.

Mahina polled in the first 8 games of the season, having 18 votes by the halfway point of the competition. The midfielder than polled another nine votes in the next six rounds to close his account at 27 votes. He polled the three votes on five occasions throughout the year, however he didn’t poll in the final four rounds of the season but it didn’t matter with the chasers unable to catch him.

Pidgeon was always Mahina nearest challenger but could never get within striking distance. He finished on 24 votes after being voted best on ground in rounds 17 and 18. Mahina’s teammate Cameron Desmond finished third on 17 votes while Sydney University’s Micael Fogarty and Wollondilly’s Russell Andrews finishing tied for 4th on 12 votes.
