De Vries Secures Win in Kealy Medal

Pennant Hills Lukas De Vries has won the Kealy Medal as the best Under 19’s footballer in Sydney after an exciting count at Monday nights Phelan Medal awards dinner.

De Vries polled two votes in the final round to secure the medal ahead of UNSW/ES Ben Davis and Pennant Hills teammate Jordan Rene.

De Vries polled 21 votes including five best on ground performances from 16 games played in 2015. Amazingly, De Vries didn’t poll a single vote until Round 7 however polled 12 votes in the next five rounds to put himself in the picture for the medal. After Round 17 De Vries held a one vote lead over Davis with Rene three votes behind going into the last round. Davis polled one vote in the Bulldogs final game and it looked like their would be a tie however following the Demons final game of the home and away season De Vries polled two votes with Rene picking up the one vote meaning De Vries claimed the outright win.

A brilliant year from youngster Davis saw him finish on 19 votes with Rene two further behind on 17 votes. St George’s Onur Selvi finished in 4th place with 13 votes and Jack Patten made it three Pennant Hills players in the top five, finishing in 5th with 12 votes.
