Tahiti gets first win, Tonga scores first goal

OFC release - Tahiti emerged with its first win of the 2003 OFC U-17 Qualifying Tournament after beating Tonga 4-1 in the battle of the two bottom placed teams in Group B.
But Tonga were also able to walk of the pitch with their heads high after matching the Tahitians in the first half going into the break even on 1-1 after Peni Pau scored Tonga's first goal of the tournament from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.
The Tahitians struck first through Hiroana Poroiae in the 16th minute but found life difficult after Tonga equalised a few minutes later. The goal lifted Tonga and it was not until the 56th minute in the second half that Tahiti was able to regain the lead through Jeff Horoi's well taken goal.
This was followed by Poroiae's second goal and from there the Tahitians were able to breathe a sigh of relief. Tahiti put the game beyond doubt scoring their fourth goal after Teriitau Matahi stepped up to penalty spot just before full-time.
Tonga faces a daunting task in its last match on Monday against Australia, who beat New Zealand 3-1 later in the evening to take out Group B honours. Tahiti will play Vanuatu in its last match.
