New Caledonia beats Cook Islands 4-0

OFC Release - New Caledonia has made a habit of going into the interval with one goal leads during this tournament and it was again the same story last night when they led the Cook Islands 1-0. But in the second half, their stamina, speed on the flanks and superior organisation provided the match winning goals.
Wamowe Mone put in another good display by bagging a second half-trick to go with Hnageje Albert's first half goal.
The Cook Island players put in a gutsy effort after conceding the first goal in the 14th minute. But the skill of Mone and New Caledonia's distinct advantage in speed coupled with their magnificent organisation on defence and attack was too much in the end.
The New Caledonians have been impressive throughout the tournament and have taken the spotlight away from the Group favourites Fiji who managed their first win yesterday against Samoa. But Fiji now needs Samoa to beat New Caledonia in the final round this weekend to have any chance of advancing to the playoff.
With Samoa struggling and New Caledonia having repulsed every challenge coming their way thus far, it will be a major upset should that result eventuate.
