Solomon Islands bounce back in style against Tonga

OFC Release - George Cowie was a happier men last night after seeing his players bounce back from a disappointing 1-3 first round loss to Australia, to completely overwhelm Tonga 12-0.
It was the biggest win of the 2003 OFC U-17 Qualifying Tournament thus far and a wonderful display of total football with nine players scoring goals. Michael Fifi got himself a hat-trick with Benjamin Totori getting a double.
Tonga had no answer to the lightning quick Solomon Islands players who thrived in the warm humidity and were much more cohesive and forceful in their application than the timid display they put up against Australia.
Solomon Islands now have a decent break before facing the struggling Tahitians on Thursday 20 February 2003 in round three.
Also in Group B round three action on Thursday, Australia has a tough match-up versus Vanuatu while New Zealand comes up against Tonga, needing a good win to stay in the hunt for the group honours.
