Maleb gets hat-trick in 11-0 win over Tonga
His goals all came within the first 25 minutes of the first half. Faced with an eight goal deficit at half-time, Tonga managed to tighten their man on marking to keep the score from escalating. Vanuatu let their foot of the accelerator slightly adding only three second half goals, but the momentum slowed once key players Charles Ligo and Maleb were subbed off in the 54th minute.
With that victory, Vanuatu took the lead in Group B on points differential with Australia and New Zealand also notching up victories in round one action.
Vanuatu now enters a showdown with New Zealand today in the first match of the Group B second round games. New Zealand is in good form after a commanding 4-0 win over Tahiti in their first match. The kiwis will be looking to avenge their defeat by Vanuatu in the OFC U-16 Tournament last year.
