Inglewood close on top four finish

Inglewood United are well placed to book a top four finish after making light work of Stirling Lions on Saturday.

Two goals from Brian Woodall and one from Steve Sokol gave United a 3-0 win at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium to leave Stirling rooted to the foot of the NPL WA table.

The one piece of good news for the visitors was that second-bottom Armadale also lost, which means Stirling remain a point adrift although with their inferior goal difference they will probably have to make up two.

Inglewood were on top from the early exchanges, forcing five corners in the first 22 minutes. And moments later their pressure was rewarded when Woodall collected Harry Evans’ left-wing centre before shooting home.

Stirling keeper Ryan Montgomery had no chance with the goal and he was soon picking the ball out of the net again, although this time he could count himself unlucky. Chok Dau worked his way into the box before he drew a foul from Steve McDonald. Dau took the penalty himself, which was well saved by Montgomery, but Sokol was first in and he made it 2-0.

Woodall wrapped up the points straight after half-time when he got on the end of a simple ball through the middle and rounded Montgomery before scoring.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Stirling, who had enjoyed a fine win over Bayswater last week. And their miserable day was complete when Darren O’Riordan was sent off after picking up a second yellow card, his dismissal made all the worse as he had to limp off after injuring himself while committing the foul.

Inglewood, who travel to Rockingham City in Round 21, will enter the final two weeks in third place, three points better off than Bayswater and Balcatta.

Stirling’s final two games see them at home to Floreat then away at Balcatta.
