Clinical Cockburn cripple Lions

Report by Anthony Ballis

Cockburn City ran rampant to register a remarkable 7-0 win against Stirling Lions at Dalmatinac Park in their PS4 NPLWA fixture.

Julian Teles and Gian Albano netted hat-tricks before the hour mark and Kieron Stallard added the other as the home side cruised to victory.

Cockburn coach Scott Miller was understandably delighted with his team’s performance.

“Seven goals is out of this world for us, the performance was brilliant,” he said.

“Every time we went forward we were frightening and we took our chances well.”

The hosts went ahead in the second minutes when Teles scored a tap-in after Stirling goalkeeper Lance Alavakis failed to claim Harry O’Brien’s low cross.

Albano made it 2-0 on 17 minutes with a classy finish, before adding his second four minutes later when he pounced on Alavakis’ save from distance.

Teles wasn’t to be outdone and completed his brace when he was unmarked from six yards to finish before the half hour mark.

Cameron Teece provided some bright moments for the visitors when he tested Luke Radonich on a couple of occasions, but Cockburn would add two more before the break.

First, Stallard headed Jesse Lazzaro’s cross in at the back post, before Teles completed his hat-trick to give Cockburn a 6-0 lead at the interval.

Teece was dangerous early in the second half, but a seventh goal followed for the home side when Albano was brought down in the area and got up to score from the penalty spot.

Cockburn ended the match with 10 men after Blake Adams was stretchered off after the home side had used all three substitutes.

Stirling coach Rob Milevski decided not to dwell on what was a disappointing result.

“We lacked concentration and defended poorly and they punished us,” he said.

“We got what we deserved in that first half.”
