Bayswater march on after four-star Stirling win

Report by Lenny Fogliani

Bayswater’s Gustavo Giron Marulanda netted a hat-trick as the league leaders cruised to a 4-0 win over Stirling at Macedonia Park.

Marulanda scored inside half an hour, before adding goals either side of Bor Bor Sam’s strike 12 minutes from time.

“He is a goal scoring machine,” said coach Chris Coyne on the Colombian striker.

“He’s a good kid, he’s got himself super fit, and there is nothing better than watching a forward with that ability and that pace, playing in full flight.”

Marulanda caused problems from the off. First he teed up David Heagney, who came close, before bagging the game's opening goal with a header from Todd Howarth's cross.

Full of confidence, he then went on a dazzling run, only to be denied by Lions’ shot-stopper Lance Alavakis.

Just eight minutes into the second half Marulanda doubled his tally with a fine run and finish before Sam found the net.

Alavakis punched the ball clear but only as far as Sam, who blasted home, before Marulanda completed his hat-trick in the closing moments.

“I am very pleased with Bor Bor. We wanted him to up his work-rate, and I thought he was super fantastic for us today,” Coyne said.

“It isn’t easy being a good player, and he is at the age where he realises hard work is what helps a player become successful.”

Bayswater now look ahead to their Westfield FFA Cup preliminary semi-final clash with Sorrento, where Coyne will be hoping his strike force can be at their best again.
