Season Preview: Perth SC

Football West News

Perth SC will celebrate their 70th anniversary as a club in WA football in 2018 and coach Ramon Falzon will be hoping they can win the title for the 22nd time to celebrate it.

Falzon believes his players have been working hard in the lead up to the 2018 season both on and off the park.

“Our objective in the pre-season was to set the bar higher for the players so that we can try to repeat and improve the excellent results that the team achieved last season during the second round,” he said.

“At our club we want to retain the good balance between producing youth players ready to step up into our first team and being competitive.

"We are shaping the future of our club by primarily producing our own players before we look externally for potential recruits.  At the same time, we have the expectation to be competitive no matter who the players on the park are.”

Falzon has helped nurture a number of young players, but they have also brought in experienced striker Richard Howles.

“We have recruited Richard from Joondalup United, but we want to persist in continuing to develop our own players, thus we elevated two of our own U20s / U18s players, namely Kristian Santich and Malek Kuc,” he said.

“Santich has surprised many people during the Night Series. He is still 18 years old but he is already showing that he has the technical qualities to start establishing himself as a first team player.

“Although he is a very exciting player to watch, we are realistic since we know that becoming a good quality first team player does not happen overnight, but we will persist in our strong work ethic and nurture him through the next step in his football journey.”

Perth will be led by keeper Francis Soale, but Falzon said the club have a number of leaders throughout the side.

“Although the captaincy is a privilege, in my opinion it does not define a leadership role. A leader is defined by the qualities of the person and the player,” he said.

“More importantly, a leader is an experienced first team player who can guide less experienced players and support those in need.  We are lucky at Perth SC to have a number of leaders in our squad, namely Francis, Adrian Madaschi, Gustavo Catarcione and Niccolo Sabatini.”

Perth SC will start their NPLWA season when they host Perth Glory at Dorrien Gardens on Sunday, February 25t – 7.00 pm kick-off.
