O’Brien senses goals against Glory

When Harry O’Brien last lined up in a fixture between Cockburn City and Perth Glory it was with the badge of the A-League club on his chest.
It turned out to be quite a day.
Ten goals were scored – two of them by O’Brien – in a frenzied 5-5 draw last season.
On Saturday, the 20-year-old will be out to bite the hand that used to feed him as Cockburn aim to extend their unbeaten league streak to five matches.
“It’s funny because it doesn’t matter what side I’m playing for, I always seem to get on the scoresheet when Glory play Cockburn,” said O’Brien, who has bounced between the clubs over the past few seasons. “I just seem to pop up in the right place in these games.”
O’Brien’s confidence is soaring ahead of Saturday’s clash against Glory at Inglewood Stadium after he bagged a double in last weekend’s 2-1 win over ECU Joondalup.
His growing belief is reflected throughout a Cockburn side that promised plenty in reaching the Night Series final and then beating Inglewood 5-1 on the opening day of the season.
Defeats to Floreat, Perth, Bayswater City and Stirling Lions brought City crashing back to earth before they set-off on a four-match unbeaten run O’Brien hopes will be extended on Saturday.
“We’ve had a chat as a squad and we are going to take it one game at a time with the aim of being in the top three at the end of the season,” he said.
“We think we’re a better side than we’ve shown so far and what it looks like on the table.”
Cockburn are in fifth place, four points behind third-placed Perth SC.
