Morgan encouraged despite Lions loss

Report by Bobby Stamatoski

New Stirling Lions Head Coach Trevor Morgan praised his side's attitude despite the NPL WA's bottom club going down 1-0 at home to Inglewood United.

Morgan, who took charge on Thursday, also said his players received a "harsh lesson" after Samuel Riak's first-half goal gave United the points.

"I think in terms of attitude, commitment and effort from the players, I coudn't have asked for anything else. I think we probably lacked a little bit of quality."

"The goal was a bit disappointing because we spoke before the game about the importance of defending set-plays. One of our lads wasn't in the position he shoud've been and the goal came from it.

"So it's a very harsh lesson for them because they've given me everything today but we've come away without winning and losing three points.

"There's a lot of good things, things that we can build on."

"We've got players out of the team that are due to come back in over the coming weeks, so plenty to look forward to."

With a bit more luck Morgan could have been reflecting on a well-earned point but Sean McManus' fantastic effort shok the crossbar.

Instead it was Riak who claimed the glory when he put the visitors ahead 10 minutes before the end of the first half.

"I really thought it was a great team performance as we started really off and not so great but we grew into the game and thankfully we got the goal and it just happened to be me.

"Everyone was doing a shift for the team and every week is a different goalscorer, even our defenders are scoring goals, so its good for the team and glad we got the win in the end."
