Lions roar with magnificent seven

Report by Aisling Lawless

Stirling started their PS4 NPL WA campaign with a bang after dishing out a 7 -1 thrashing to visitors Subiaco on Saturday.

The home side came out strong in the first half and scored three goals thanks to David Micevski, Teeboy Kamara and Robert Petkov.

But it rained goals in the second half with Petkov and Kamara netting seconds, alongside goals from Daniel Micevski and Blamo Qua Qua.

Carlin Feely pulled one back for the visitors but it was too little, too late.

David Micevski, who rejoined his brother Daniel after a year at Inglewood, was delighted to celebrate his first game back with an emphatic win.

“We’ve started the campaign well and continued the momentum from the night series and it’s great to be back playing with these boys again,” Micevski said.

“It’s good to get the goals early to give the boys confidence for the season ahead.”    “

The brothers were both top scorers at their clubs last season and David Micevski is looking forward to some healthy brotherly rivalry.

“But obviously we have other great goal scorers in the team, as we saw today, and it’s great that our team has multiple attacking threats,” he said.

Kamara was energetic in the final third and twelve minutes in his shot found the top right corner.

Two minutes later David Micevski slid one in after evading defenders to mark his first game back.

A red wave continued to bombard the Subiaco defence and in the 29th minute a pinpoint pass from David Murphy allowed Petkov to head the ball down into the goal.

The visitors opened the second half with a chance from Feely but substitute Ian McMurray was unable to connect for what would have been a tap in.

Kamara’s pace on the left wing proved too much and the former Adelaide United player set up Petkov for his second goal in the 53rd minute.

It was déjà vu a minute later with an almost identical goal but this time it was Daniel Micevski’s turn to get on the scoresheet.

Feely managed to score one against the run of play in the 56th minute but Qua Qua completed the Lions rout in the 78th.
