Prajza gives Gulls win over Balcatta

Report by Max Hayden-Evans

A goal from Jakub Prajza just before half-time was enough to see Sorrento run out 1-0 winners against a Balcatta outfit that refused to be shaken off by the home side.

Chances proved to be few and far between for the two mid-table sides vying for their chance to climb the NPL WA ladder.

Both teams started brightly but neither was able to establish any sort of stranglehold on the match before Prajza struck late in the first-half for the game’s only goal.

Sorrento hit the right goalpost and the ball rebounded kindly to Prajza who made no mistake in firing home to earn his side a valuable three points.

The introduction of Balcatta veteran Gavin Knight in the second-half nearly inspired an equaliser but Sorrento stood tall to keep a hard-earned clean sheet.

Sorrento goalkeeper James Morgan was called into action late on in the match but he responded well as he pulled off two crucial saves to deny Balcatta and ensure his side would go on to victory.

Both sides have FFA Cup Round Five action to look forward to next weekend with Sorrento hosting giant-killers Gwelup Croatia and Balcatta at home to Canning City.
