Five-star Perth put Mandurah to the sword

Report by Tommy Doleman

Perth SC moved into second place in the PS4 NPLWA after a convincing 5-0 away win against Mandurah City.

Alex Silla got on the end of Frank Furfaro’s cross on 23 minutes to give the visitors a deserved lead before Matt Milenovic doubled their advantage just as the hosts were looking for a response.

Two goals in two minutes from Gustavo Catarcione and Harley Orr put the game to bed early in the second half and the Azzurri were able to maintain control for the rest of the match.

Silla then added the gloss with his second goal 12 minutes before full time, while Mandurah ended the game with 10 men following a second yellow card for Oliver McGee.

Perth coach Ramon Falzon said he was very pleased with the performance of his young players as they recorded a third straight win.

“It’s very satisfying after showing some good form in recent weeks against Cockburn and ECU Joondalup,” he said.

“Yesterday [the match] was a complete performance. Going forward we looked very dangerous and we defended very well.

“Every good performance will continue to put us in a strong position going into the rest of the season.”

Falzon also said that the squad was full of belief in what’s shaping up to a very even 2017 season.

“We’re positive but at the same time we don’t want to get carried away because I expect the top of the league to be very tight,” he said.

“I honestly can’t see any team dropping off, so we know we have to perform well until the very end.”
