Broadmeadow Magic welcomes Lambton Jaffas to contest a Grand Final rematch in the National Premier League Round 13 Match of the Round.

The 3-0 loss last week to the Newcastle Jets Youth was the Magic’s sixth of the season. Combined with five wins and a draw, they sit in seventh place on sixteen points.

Lambton are enjoying a better run of form this season. Five wins, three draws and four losses see the side from Arthur Edden Oval sitting fourth on eighteen points, two points away from second.

Jaffas coach David Tanchevski said that his side has not been as consistent as he would have liked this season, and that he was bracing for a tough match against Broadmeadow.

‘We’ve really struggled to keep consistency, and we’ll be looking for that this weekend,’ he said.

‘Magic are a quality side, and we will need to step up a gear and be at our best for the match.’

The last time the two sides met was back in Round 4. Despite missing Luke Virgili, Peter Haynes and Chris Berlin, Broadmeadow cruised to a 3-1 win. A Scott Petit double and a goal to Rhys Tippet sealed the deal for Broadmeadow. Alex Palozzi hammered home a free kick for the Jaffas.

Broadmeadow will be intent on a repeat of that Round 4 performance and result this Sunday afternoon. A win would see the Magic overtake Lambton, possibly leaving them in the top five with just five rounds left.

The Jaffas will have other ideas, and will be desperate to record their first win against Broadmeadow since the ninth of June last year.

The match will be full of attack as both sides possess quality strike forces. Tanchevski said that he hoped to have John Majurovski back on deck, a huge boost for the side.

It will be a competitive Match of the Round fixture between two sides intent on cementing themselves in the top five, and kick starting some form heading into the finals in the process.

Newcastle Jets Youth vs. South Cardiff FC
Ulinga Oval
Saturday 5th July, 2.45pm
#NEWvSCG

Newcastle Jets Youth travel to Ulinga Oval in the opening match of the thirteenth round of the 2014 National Premier League season to take on the South Cardiff Gunners.

The Jets registered their eighth win of the season last week in style against Broadmeadow, scoring three second half goals to win 3-0.

It leaves them in first position, six points clear of the second placed Edgeworth Eagles.

They will be aware that a win this weekend leaves them firmed to take out the minor premiership.

South Cardiff led Adamstown Rosebud 1-0 last weekend, however conceded three unanswered goals, capitulating and losing the match 3-1.

A win would have taken them to within two points of the top eight but it wasn’t to be. Therefore, this weekend is a must win game for the side. With just six rounds remaining time is running out for them.

In a massive blow for the side standout striker James Byrnes will miss this weekend’s match after being sent from the field in their match against Adamstown for the use of foul language towards an opposition player.

The Gunners will be relying on the likes of Mitch Wallace and Dean Kelley to really stand up and play a big role for the Gunners in the front third this Saturday.

For the Jets, Radovan Pavicevic continued his hot 2014 form last weekend, opening the scoring against Broadmeadow.

The last time these two sides clashed Byrnes was the only Gunners player to register a goal in their 4-1 loss to the Jets Youth in Round 4. Ben Hay, Radovan Pavicevic, Nick Cowburn and Brandon Lundy all scored a goal each for the league leaders.

Both sides have so much to play for this weekend, a recipe for a quality, well-fought match. It is the only match to be played on Saturday and all present can expect a quality ninety minutes of football.

Adamstown Rosebud FC vs. Charlestown City Blues FC
Adamstown Oval
Sunday 6th July, 2.45pm
#BUDvCCB

In the third match of Round 13 Adamstown Rosebud host Charlestown City Blues at Adamstown Oval.

The Rosebud completed a comeback win over South Cardiff last weekend, just their fourth of the season. Combined with a draw and seven losses they are on thirteen points, just five outside the top five.

Charlestown is the side that occupies fifth position. Just like the fourth placed Jaffas they have won five, drawn three and lost four.

Three points for Adamstown this weekend is crucial for their finals hopes. A win would leave them at least two points outside the five. A loss however would all but end their hopes. It would see them end the round eight points outside the five.

Last weekend Dayne Pawlik and Daniel Yaxley were standouts for the Rosebud, and coach Anthony Richards will be hoping that they can produce similar performances this weekend.

The Rosebud strikers will need to be firing this weekend against a side who has only conceded one goal in three rounds of football.

Charlestown have picked up seven points from a possible nine from those three matches and will be confident they can score another three this weekend.

The last time the two sides played was in Round 4. Charlestown recorded their biggest win of the season, dismantling the Rosebud 4-1.

Adamstown will be hoping that their newly found confidence will help get them over the line this weekend, and see them defeat the Blues for the first time this year.

Charlestown has established themselves as a genuine finals contender however, and will be no easy task for the Rosebud.

Hamilton Olympic FC vs. Weston Workers FC
Darling Street Oval
Sunday 6th July, 2.45pm
#OLYvWWB

Hamilton Olympic will be searching for their first win in four matches when they meet West Workers at Darling Street Oval on Sunday.

They conceded their fourth loss of the season last weekend in a demoralizing 5-1 loss against Lake Macquarie. Combined with four wins and four draws the side sits in sixth on sixteen points.

Weston has been enjoying life in the top three in recent weeks. They have won five, drawn four and loss just three this season as Steve Piggott’s first year in charge continues to be a huge success.

The Bears led against the Jaffas last weekend through two Jamie Subat strikes. They gave up the lead in the second half and succumbed to a 2-2 draw.

They will need to be on their toes this weekend against an Olympic outfit hungry for a victory.

Hamilton occupied third place this season prior to their horror run of form that has seen them pick up one point from a possible twelve in their last four matches.

With the fourth placed Jaffas taking on the sixth placed Magic, this match is crucial for both sides. Weston can extend the gap between one of those two sides, whereas Olympic could move clear of Magic, and/or overtake the Jaffas.

A win for Olympic will also see them move equal with Weston on nineteen competition points.

The last time the two sides played in Round 4, Weston defeated Hamilton 3-2 at Rockwell Automation Park.

Hamilton will have the home ground advantage this weekend, and a lot more to play for, so expect a quality, competitive match between a side in form, and one desperate to find some and avenge three defeats in a row in the process.

Edgeworth FC vs. Lake Macquarie City FC
Jack McLaughlan Oval
Sunday 6th July, 2.45pm
#EFCvLMC

The final match of Round 13 will see an absolute blockbuster take place at Jack McLaughlan Oval as Edgeworth host Lake Macquarie City.

The Eagles are the second ranked side in the league on twenty points after five wins, five draws and two losses.

Lake Macquarie are the only team still in single digits, sitting last on eight points after two wins, two draws and eight losses.

Despite this, the Roosters proved that anything is possible last weekend with a 5-1 demolition of Hamilton Olympic, putting all of the other nine National Premier League clubs on notice that they are not here to make up the numbers, and they will fight to the end to avoid demotion.

They travel to one of the most feared places of 2014 this weekend. Edgeworth has established their home turf as a fortress, losing just one match there this year.

Lake Macquarie will be required to bring another extraordinary performance this weekend, just as they did against Hamilton. The key to their success last weekend was four goal hero Sam Walker. Walker’s amazing effort saw him leap over Jamie Byrnes at the top of the leading goal scorer’s chart. He has scored eleven of the Roosters’ nineteen goals this season, and Gary Rowe will be hoping for a huge performance from his marksman this weekend.

The last time the two sides faced off the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Both sides will be intent on picking up the three points this weekend for separate reasons.

The sides are facing completely opposite challenges.

With six rounds remaining Edgeworth trail the Jets Youth by six points, and therefore every game is a must win from here on in if they are to win the minor premiership.

Lake Macquarie are five points behind both Adamstown and South Cardiff, and every game is important for them as they fight to beat relegation.

One thing is certain in this weekend’s match. Both sides will turn up ready for one of the most competitive matches of their season, and because of this it will be an extremely competitive attacking fixture.
