2018 NPL Capital Football Awards

Canberra FC scooped the pool at the 2018 Capital Football Awards night with a host of awards across the Men’s & Women’s Premier League competitions.

After clinching the Men’s treble with a famous Grand Final win, the National Premier Leagues Men’s awards had a decidedly red feel about them.

Thomas James, who scored a brace in that Grand Final, picked up the 2018 NPL Player of the Year award to go with his Golden Boot as well, and cap off a stunning year that saw him awarded the Valeri Medal for Best on Ground in the decider.

Head Coach Paul Macor picked up the 2018 National Premier League Men’s Head Coach of the Year after guiding his team to the Premiership and Championship, meaning Canberra FC took home every title and major award for the 1st Grade competition this season.

In the National Premier Leagues Women’s Awards, Player of the Year honours went to Canberra FC midfield star Grace Gill after a sensational season, that saw her take the team to the brink of another Championship before they were defeated by Belconnen United.

United’s Maddy Whittall was formally honoured for her Best on Ground performance in the Grand Final with the Julie Murray Medal, and the Canberra United Academy’s Aoife Colvill was awarded the Golden Boot for her stunning 42-goal season with the young side.

Ryan Grogan coached that team to second place on the table in 2018, and his efforts were recognised with the 2018 National Premier Leagues Women’s Coach of the Year award.

In an exceptional achievement, Belconnen United collected the Club Champion Awards for both the NPL Men’s and Women’s for the seventh year in a row.
