Canberra FC 2 (Grace Gill 41', Diarna Genovesi 80') def. by Canberra Olympic Football Club 4 (Grace Maher 7', Meg McLaughlin 39', 50', 66)

Canberra Olympic picked up an important win in the context of the top four on Sunday, with a fast start helping them to a 4-2 win over Canberra FC.

The visitors started well as Grace Maher tucked home a spot kick after Olympic were awarded a penalty and controlled much of the game early. They doubled the lead with six minutes to go thanks to a goal from Meg McLaughlin but Grace Gill struck back for Canberra FC two minutes later, and the two teams headed into half-time with Olympic leading 2-1.

But Olympic extended that advantage back to two goals only five minutes into the second half as a fast start caught the hosts off guard again, with McLaughlin grabbing her second of the afternoon.

And McLaughlin continued to torment the home defence, completing her hat-trick with 24 minutes left of the game to all but seal the game with the lead out at three goals.

There was still time for Canberra FC to pull one back as Diarna Genovesi netted with 10 minutes to play, but that would not be enough as Olympic finished 4-2 winners.

Olympic face Tuggeranong next weekend and will be hoping this weeks opponents can do the job against Gungahlin United as Olympic look to close the gap to fourth.

Tuggeranong United Football Club 2 (Own Goal 15', Rhiannon Daisley 70') def. by Woden-Weston Football Club 3 (Lotta Raap 34', Geraldine Longo 68', Anna Vandenbroucke 77')

Woden-Weston Football Club kept Tuggeranong winless for the season as they came from behind on Sunday to finish 3-2 winners at Greenway.

The hosts got off to the perfect start as the ball was bundled into the Woden-Weston net by a defender, and their lead lasted nearly 20 minutes before Lotta Raap tied things up heading towards half-time. Score would remain locked at the break with both teams battling hard, but the Wanderers began to get on top in the second half and Geraldine Longo broke the deadlock 23 minutes into the second 45 with a tidy finish to put her side ahead.

But two minutes later Tuggeranong were right back in it thanks to a good goal from Rhiannon Daisley and the two teams were all set to fight it out for the final 20 minutes until Anna Vandenbroucke stole the game with 13 minutes to play as she scored.

Woden-Weston held out for the remainder of the game to finish 3-2 winners and remain just six points out of fourth spot, while Tuggeranong remain without points for the season.

Gungahlin United Football Club 3 (Mel Bunker 5’, 49’, 60’) def. Monaro Panthers FC 1 (Ella Hemmings 66’)

Gungahlin United maintained their four-point lead for fourth spot with a 3-1 win over Monaro on Sunday afternoon.

After struggling to get on the front foot early in matches at the start of the season United have improved and they got on the board just five minutes in to this outing as Mel Bunker fired home.

But Monaro fought back well and held out for the rest of the half, heading into the half-time break only a goal down.

However four minute into the second half Bunker broke clear through the middle and tucked her finish past the goalkeeper rushing out and into the far corner to put her side up by two goals.

11 minutes later the forward produced an almost replica effort of her second to complete her hat-trick inside an hour as United continued to control the match.

The Panthers still looked to create chances of their own with strong play from Darby Whiteley and Zoe Szeremet, and found a breakthrough from Ella Hemmings with 24 minutes to go. However that was the only goal the visitors could muster and the match finished 3-1, with United retaining their lead over Canberra Olympic.

They now face Canberra FC next week in a testing clash, while Monaro face Belconnen United at McKellar Park.
