Canberra United Academy 5 (Laura Hughes 24’, Aoife Colvill 55’, 59’, 81’, Sarah Morgan 84’) def. Woden-Weston 1 (Cassia McGlashan 45+1’)

A second half hat-trick from Aoife Colvill helped to spur the Canberra United Academy to a 5-1 win over Woden-Weston on Saturday at Hawker.

Belconnen United 16 (Jasmine Maguire 10’, 20’, Sam Price 15’ Jessie Williams 19’, 31’, 33’, Maddy Whittall 26’, 48’, 66’, 75’, Michaela Day 37’, Bronte Pyke 42’, Ellie Raymond 56’, Karen Clarke 70’, Jessie Rasschaert 78’, Brittany Smale 84’)def. Monaro Panthers 0

A near-perfect performance from Belconnen United on Saturday saw them record an enormous 16-0 win over the Monaro Panthers at McKellar Park, including 10 different goalscorers.

The hosts raced out of the blocks and had a four goal lead within the opening twenty minutes, and that quickly extended to seven as Jessie Williams completed a hat-trick inside 33 minutes alongside a brace from Jasmine Maguire and goals to Maddy Whittall and Sam Price.

Everything clicked for United on the night and goals to Michaela Day and Bronte Pyke heading into the break pushed the lead to nine goals at half-time.

To their credit Monaro looked to work the ball out when in possession rather than thump it clear, however too often they would turn it over only to see it come straight back towards their backline.

Whittall extended the score shortly after the break and Ellie Raymond added to it a few minutes later, and the lead pushed to 12 with 24 minutes left as Whittall grabbed her hat-trick goal. Karen Clarke smashed one into the roof of the net with 20 minutes to go and then Whittall and Jessie Rasschaert added two more in quick succession with time winding down.

But there was still time left, and substitute Brittany Smale scored three minutes after coming into the game to round off an emphatic scoreline.

Gungahlin United Football Club 1 (Manessah Humphries 69') def. by Canberra FC 3 (Marcia Wallis 61', Chantel Jones 81', Grace Gill 87')

Canberra FC notched up their eighth straight win in the league with a 3-1 win on Sunday as all four goals came in the second half.

The first half was a tight affair with neither side really able to carve out any clear cut chances, and it was largely an up and back affair for the first 45 minutes.

The second half began in much the same fashion, and it took just over a quarter of an hour to open the scoring as Marcia Wallis finished a good move to give the visitors the lead with 30 minutes to play.

United responded shortly after though thanks to a nice goal from Manessah Humphries and the game was poised on a knife edge with 15 minutes still to play.

But Mark Risteski’s side took the game by the scruff of the neck and hit United with a quickfire double from Chantel Jones and Grace Gill to take the lead and then double it as full-time rolled around.

United will take on Monaro in two weeks after nursing some injuries across the break, while Canberra FC will visit Canberra Olympic in a very important matchup.

Canberra Olympic Football Club 9 (Meg McLaughlin 6', 38, 56', 67, 81', 90+1', Vanessa Ryan 14', Alexia Forner 65', Grace Field 76') def. Tuggeranong United Football Club 1 (Adriana Ilheo 45')

A six-goal haul from Meg McLaughlin against her former side helped Canberra Olympic to a big eight-goal win on Sunday afternoon.

Olympic came in off the back of an important win against Woden-Weston last weekend and started fast, with McLaughlin getting on the board just six minutes in with a well-taken finish.

Vanessa Ryan doubled the lead six minutes later but Tuggeranong worked their way back into the game to slow their opponents down. They could only do so for 20 minutes though, and McLaughlin netted again seven minutes from the break to push the lead to three goals. A lifeline for Tuggies came in the form of an Adriana Ilheo strike on the cusp of half-time and the two sides headed in with Olympic up 3-1.

The hosts began the second half the same way as the first though, and when McLaughlin netted her third 11 minutes in to push the lead back to three goals it was the signal for the floodgates to open. Alexia Forner got on the score sheet with 25 minutes left followed by McLaughlin again shortly after, and Grace Field scored number seven with 15 minutes to play.

There was still time for McLaughlin to force the issue though, and two more in the final 10 minutes and stoppage time rounded out the final score. Tuggeranong will welcome the weekend off to nurse some sore bodies before a meeting with Woden-Weston in a fortnight, while Olympic will plan for a big clash with Canberra FC as they look to extend the gap between themselves and fifth place.
