Canberra FC claimed a resounding 3-0 Match of the Round victory on Sunday as goals from Matthew Waters, Thomas James and Robert Deeley saw off reigning Premiers Canberra Olympic in a grand final rematch at O’Connor.

After a strong start from the visitors, Canberra FC’s Matthew Waters broke the dead lock in the 16^th minute as he converted a rebound off the keeper into the bottom left corner.

Going into the interval despite the lead for Canberra, it was an extremely close tie with both teams not willing to budge and give the other side an upper hand.

In the 50^th minute the home side’s Philip Yarnold received his second yellow card and was sent off after a rash sliding tackle on his opposite number, seeing Olympic reduced to ten men for the second week in a row. 

Canberra FC took control of the game after the dismissal as they began to open up Olympic and create far more opportunities.

The visitors doubled their lead when Thomas James broke away on the counter down the left wing, cut inside and fired across the keeper into the bottom right corner in the 79^th minute.

Mark Vrkic’s side sealed the win in stoppage time through Robert Deeley to heap more misery on the defending champions.

Canberra Olympic will look to bounce back after the Easter break against Cooma Tigers at Nijong Oval, while the victors Canberra FC will aim to continue this winning form as they take on Belconnen United at McKellar Park in a top of the table clash.
