Preview:

Reigning champions West Adelaide take on unbeaten Adelaide Comets in Round 3 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues South Australia at the Adelaide Shores Football Centre this Saturday.

The premiers suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Adelaide City last round, whilst the Comets have two wins from two matches after a 3-2 win against Croydon Kings.

According to West Adelaide striker, Alex Rideout, there were a variety of reasons for the close loss to City.

“I think for us, they dealt with the hot weather a lot better than us,” he said.

“I think the first half the game was basically an even match.

“They (City) obviously controlled it a lot better and got the ball a lot more; we couldn’t really break them down, we didn’t pass it around – that was the main issue, we played the long ball way too much.

“We didn’t play our normal game.”

Rideout is confident that West Adelaide will return to form at home against Comets.

“It’s going to be at our ground and I know we’re pretty dangerous there, and it’s going to be a night game, so I think we’re going to bounce back and basically play our game again and relax again after the week we just had and hopefully get a win,” he said.

Comets will head to Adelaide Shores Football Centre high on confidence after what Steven Grelli described as a “good win” in last week’s clash against Croydon.

The former MetroStars midfielder is among a number of new arrivals at SA Athletics Stadium and says that the win against Croydon will keep “the momentum going for a newly formed team”.

Grelli has enjoyed the positive feeling at his new club so far.

“There is definitely a good vibe,” he said,” Some new players have joined the club, along with some interesting players.”

“There seems to be good culture being formed at the club, which is great and I think there is big things ahead this year for the Comets.

“There is a good energy around the club; very professional.

“From the coaching staff, to the committee, to the players, everyone is on the same page.

“The whole club is moving into the same direction.”

Like any player, Grelli is excited to be playing the reigning champions this weekend at West Beach.

“Definitely very excited to be playing them (West Adelaide),” he said,” Obviously they are the champions from last year.”

“We’re determined to keep our own going, coming up against the best.

“We’re hopeful that we can put in a good showing and keep this sort of form going.”
