Preview:
A resurgent Adelaide Comets host an embattled White City in Round 24 of the PlayStation4 National Premier League South Australia at Santos Stadium this Saturday.

The Comets are eighth after consecutive wins in the past fortnight, whilst White City is sitting in second-last place with a meagre two wins all season.

Despite the grim outlook, the mood is “surprisingly good” according Srdjan Semiz but admits the team is very much aware of the seriousness of the situation.

“The boys are aware of course of where we’re at,” Semiz said,” you know, we can’t do much about it,”
“The only thing we can do is to stick together as a team and have a goal for the next game, which is to win.

“We want to get a positive result or at least a positive finish to the season because we’ve had a very hard season.”

Theoretically, White City still has a chance of avoiding relegation, if certain results go their way but for Semiz and his teammates it is about bringing back some pride back to the club.

“What we really want to do for ourselves is to bring back a bit of pride to ourselves and back to the club with a couple of wins if we can and if we still have a chance to stay in the league by the last round, well, we’ll still fight very hard for it,” Semiz said.

After previously suffering seven consecutive losses, the Comets are back to their winning ways with two hard fought wins over Raiders (2-1) and Adelaide City (1-0).

Unsurprisingly, Davide Zerillo describes the team’s mood as “pretty positive”:

“Everyone is quite excited and happy to have a won a couple of games but we’re still aware of the situation we’re in and we need to make sure that we don’t get ahead of ourselves,”Zerillo said.
Especially after the recent win against City, Zerillo noticed a changed mood within the team.

“Confidence is there; players are up and about and quite happy with the recent results,” he said.
“So, the confidence is much higher than it was a few weeks ago.”

The goal for the remainder of the season is to get “maximum points” but the focus is very much on this week’s match against White City.

“This week is really important for us as we come up against White City, who are probably in a position they don’t want to be in but I’m sure they’re going to come out fighting,” Zerillo said.

“It is really important that we get maximum points this week and hopefully we’re safe after that.”
