Preview:

In what shapes to be a crucial match for Paul Pezos’ men in the context of the season, West Adelaide travel to Steve Woodcock Sports Centre to tackle rival Campbelltown City in Round 16 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia.

The race for a place in the top six and Final’s appearance has reached a bottle neck with MetroStars making a late run up the ladder, honing in on fifth and sixth position.

The trip to the Eastern suburbs will be a big challenge for West Adelaide as they confront one of the competition’s consistent performers this season.

The pressure is building on West Adelaide to continue their winning momentum if they are to fight off the threats from opposing sides. A loss to Campbelltown and a Metro win will see West Adelaide drop out of the six, and face a massive task to get them back in the pursuit of a Finals berth.

Talented West Adelaide striker Perry Mitris is well aware of the importance of this week’s game. He said that the next few weeks will determine the shape of the final six and every point will be vital.

“The whole team knows it’s now or never, we need the three points this week to stay in the final’s race, this is a must win game,” Mitris said.

The last time these two old rivals met they played out a scoreless draw which Mitris believes gives his side a lot of confidence knowing that they can match Campbelltown on the park.

“When we played them in round five it was an even game, with both teams playing good football. We had our chances but couldn’t convert in front of goal.

“That’s been the story of our season; we have played good football in most of our games but haven’t been able to put teams away.

“We have some good creative players like Ricardo (Da Silva) and Tommy (Briscoe) in the midfield. If we can get these guys onto the ball and let them loose they can be very damaging.”

For all their endeavours West Adelaide will have to confront Joe Mullen’s marauders who have their sights set on top spot, and a victory this weekend will be their highest priority.

Mullen will be looking for his team to lift after a below par performance in their last outing against Croydon, where they were held to a scoreless draw.

The outcome of this encounter could go either way as both sides are evenly matched. But it will all come down to which team has the greater hunger for victory that will decide this important contest.
