R9 Wrap: Adelaide City v Croydon Kings

It was raining goals on Monday night in Round 9 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia as Adelaide City defeated Croydon Kings 6-1 in emphatic fashion. The result leaves the Kings at sixth while City move to ninth.

Both sides started brightly with first half goals to Croydon’s Rocky Visconte and City’s Joel Allwright but City powered away in a strong second half performance. The first came from Anthony Costa in the 62nd minute. Seven minutes later Michael Acton made it 3-1 with a smartly taken free kick from the right. Nicholas Bucco joined the scorers list with a superbly taken free kick, this time from the left.

Adelaide City’s Japanese import, Fumiya Suzuki, put the icing on the cake with a brilliant double, both showing plenty of skill and poise to cut in from the right flank.

Adelaide City’s Alex Sunasky was delighted with the way his side produced an emphatic win

“It’s great really, especially with the different number of scorers. I think this season we’ve been scoring plenty of goals and it’s been coming from a number of different people compared to other seasons which is a good thing.”

Despite a wide range of goals to choose from, Sunasky said there was one that stood out.

“Michael Acton’s free kick, I think it was his first goal for the first team and he should be on free kicks every week.”

Despite the impressive performance, Sunasky and his side know you’re only as good as your next game.

“It can’t be a one off of course because we’re still not where we want to be, it’s still early days in the season so we need to maintain this form against Adelaide Comets this week and for the rest of the year.”

Croydon Kings’ Luke Klimek talked about a disappointing night for his side.

“I think we played a good strong 60 minutes but then we made a couple of mistakes and that caused them to score goals and they took all their chances and they were better in the end.”

No team likes to lose in the fashion Croydon did and Klimek talked about the biggest letdown in his side’s display.

“Probably the result, probably the 6-1 is the most disappointing to concede so many goals but I guess that happens in football.”

Klimek and his side are well aware that they are given an opportunity to atone for their performance this weekend.

“You just have to keep moving forward, you can’t dwell on it too much and we just have to aim to get a result against White City this weekend.”
