Regional action continues in Round 7 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia as Raiders aim to maintain their purple patch against struggling Modbury at Whyalla Wanderers Soccer Club in Whyalla on Saturday.

Raiders offered a warning to the rest of the competition with back-to-back wins against MetroStars and Port Adelaide Pirates, scoring nine times in the process.

Coach Carl Maynard said this is the Raiders he has been expecting.

“We played very well, worked hard and got the ball forward quickly. What we did paid off against what is a good Pirates side. We did well on the night,” the coach noted.

“What we have worked on recently has worked on the field. We’ve defended well, but individually all the players are doing their jobs. When that happens it helps the collective.

“In a nutshell, this is what I expected to see. I’ve been telling everyone the team is capable of the performances they are now putting in. But there’s a long way to go.”

Two of Raiders young guns have come to the fore. Elvis Kamsoba netted a double against MetroStars and has six goals to his name, while Yamin Jamal put three past Pirates.

Maynard expects the pair to grow and is not expecting any favours against a Modbury side desperate for points.

“Both are young and still learning. We expect both to get better and they will do so naturally. We are there to guide them.

“Modbury haven’t got the results they wanted, but the performances have not been bad. They work hard and there is no way we will take them lightly. If we do we will lose.”

Modbury have lost three on the trot following a first point against Croydon. Worryingly, the Jets have conceded 11 goals in 270 minutes.

Goalkeeper Paul Reilly was disappointing with the 2-1 defeat to West Torrens Birkalla.

“We were disappointed with the outcome. We took the lead and then conceded two sloppy goals,” he said.

“We are making poor mistakes at crucial times, picking up red cards which makes it harder and conceding sloppy goals. It’s a combination of things not helping our cause.

“We’ve asked ourselves how we can go from being disciplined and playing well against Croydon to matches after that. The draw shows we can do it, but mentally we must be switched on and at our best.”

It hasn’t been an easy transition from the second division for the Jets, especially after a number of summer changes.

Currently second to last, Reilly sees the next month as crucial, starting with the weekend clash with Raiders.

“We lost so many players, but the young guys are stepping up. It’s a long year and there’s a lot of hunger and a good team spirit. The next month is crucial.

“Raiders are in good form. It’s a game that can set us up over the Easter period. We want more points under our belt.

“There’s a different aspect to the game as it’s played in Whyalla. I think it will be a case of who settles first, but we feel we are in with a good chance.”
