Campbelltown City will look to close the gap further on league leaders Adelaide City when they take on Adelaide United on Saturday.

Both teams had unideal results in Round 9 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia, with United falling 2-0 to bottom side Raiders in an upset result, while Campbelltown pulled out a draw with Adelaide Olympic late in the second half.

A win in Round 9 for Campbelltown would have put the Red Devil’s equal top with City, after the Black and Whites dropped points, but Captain Iain Fyfe was not focused on that.

“We don’t tend to focus on other teams and other results or even league positions.

“Everything is based on our style and if we keep executing our game plan we will continue to get points.”

United are currently in the midst of a three game losing streak, but Fyfe said that the predicament they find themselves in makes Saturday even more of a danger game for the away side.

“Adelaide United are a good team.

“They have the ability to win games against anyone in the league because they are well organised and always have something to prove.

“This weekend is a danger game for us.”

United young gun Riley McGree said a good performance this week against a title contender will help restore confidence after a disappointing run of results.

“A good performance against Campbelltown would definitely give us a huge confidence boost.

“We know we can compete with the best teams and coming off three losses we need that winning belief back in the team to do so.”

Impressive displays against NPL mainstays West Adelaide and Croydon have shown that United have the ability to match it with anyone.

McGree said that getting results came down to self-belief within the squad.

“As a team, I don’t think we had the desire to be winners against Raiders; we didn’t adapt quick enough to their style of play and we struggled to cope with set pieces.

“Wins against top side’s shows that we are capable of getting results.

“As a team we known we are capable of getting results against these sides, on the day it all comes down to our desire and belief in each other.

“We need to believe in ourselves and perform when it counts.”

Fyfe said that this was a point in the season where points can be easily picked up, and that they needed to stick to their game plan in order to capitalize on that, starting against United on Saturday.

“This is an important time in the season, teams will get complacent and will start to drop points.

“We must execute our game plan.

“We must apply a high press and set the level that the game is to be played at, control the tempo and see if they can raise to our standards.

“If they can’t, we have them.”

McGree said he was looking forward to a pleasing game for the spectator, as both sides implement attractive playing styles.

“I’m expecting a hard game, Campbelltown are a good side who play attractive football and look to move the ball quickly and effectively.

“We will need to be defensively switched on and take our chances in attack.

“I believe we will need to disciplined in both defence and attack, play our style, have belief in each other and work extremely hard as a team [to get the three points].”
