R18 Wrap: Croydon Kings v Adelaide Comets

Croydon Kings recorded a comeback 3-1 win over Adelaide Comets in Round 18 of the Play Station 4 National Premier League South Australia at Polonia Reserve on Friday night.

Jared Daly gave Comets a dream start for new interim Senior Coach Theo Tsounis after coming in from the right to curl the ball into the far top corner.

Comets were the better side for the majority of the first half but the Kings struck with the last play of the second half. Shaun McGreevy showed great timing to sting a powerful header into the back of the net.

McGreevy poured on the style to find his second with a sublime bending effort from the right. The third goal was officially called an Own Goal after a scorching low drive into the box from Rocky Visconte went through a series of legs.

McGreevy spoke after the match and was a happy man.

“The result was really good, we definitely needed it, we’ve had good form lately so it was good to get another three points and stay in the top three or four.”

He was also pleased to see the Kings get the results after some hard times early in the year.

“It was a really slow start to the season, we put in a lot of good work in the first 8 games, weren’t getting the results but we’re still working hard and now getting the results.”

McGreevy was also confident there’s plenty of improvement left in the Kings

“Andreas (Wiens) didn’t start so we had a few people out but a lot of people came in and we’re starting to hit our straps.”

Comets’ Jared Daly spoke after the match about the problems Comets encountered.

“I guess maybe tweaking the system a little bit tonight probably just broke down in the second half. Tactically we tried something new, it worked for the first 50 minutes and they countered and broke it down near the end.”

“But I guess with the new manager building on things we can see more of it next week.”

One thing is for sure, the Comets under Tsounis are going to do everything they can to move back up the ladder.

“Two big things he brought in are intensity and discipline so they’re two big things we’re working on so I guess for 60 minutes that worked well and then as the boys got tired it dropped off.”

“So hopefully next week we can lift again.”

The result leaves the Kings in third and the Comets in eighth.
