Preview:

It’s third up against fourth as Croydon Kings and Campbelltown City face off in what should be an entertaining match in Round 6 of the South Australia PlayStation4 National Premier League at Polonia Reserve on March 14.

As the reigning champions, Croydon’s Shaun McGreevy knows the importance of what a win against another finals aspirant is.

“It’s extremely important, both teams haven’t lost a game either yet so we’d like to pick up 3 points and if we were to get the three points it would start pushing the packs from top to bottom a little more open.”

Thankfully for McGreevy, he’s seeing plenty of positives from his side that will help out against a strong Campbelltown outfit.

“I thought we had a lot more intensity, we were tackling in twos and threes and doubling up like we had last year and we hadn’t had that until the weekend just been.  We definitely need to do that against Campbelltown.”

His team mate Michael Doyle also remains confident of his side’s chances this week.

“I think it’ll be a really tough game, Joe always sets up a good team defensively and attacking and to score a lot of goals but I think if we stick to our job that Brazza wants us to do we’ll be able to nullify their players that have an influence on the game.

Despite the loss of first choice striker Andreas Wiens, Doyle spoke about the outstanding character shown by his club.

“There’s been people that have stepped up, a few younger boys as well, obviously Shaun is working really hard up top, Chris Pepe and Rocky as we'll but defensively we’ve kept it tight which has helped in the last couple of games.”

Campbelltown have scored plenty of goals when they’ve won and Luigi DiTroia spoke about what his team’s done to make that happen.

“It’s just been what we’ve been working on in preseason and during training so far this season; just to keep possession and close to our strengths which is moving the ball around quickly, getting the ball into the attackers feet and letting them do the damage.”

DiTroia also knows his side’s hard work needs results to top it off and this week represents a perfect opportunity.

“Even though it’s early in the season, it’s good to get a good start and it’d be good to get a win to have that edge against them and go outright second if not top depending on what Blue Eagles do.”

His teammate Michael Matricciani paid credit to his team’s hard work which sees them currently sitting in third place.

“We’ve been working a lot on our defensive structures over the off season and during the first couple of rounds and we know we need to improve on that. But we do know that we are improving and we have firepower up front.”

Matricciani said his side will not laps as they’re well aware the challenge that awaits his side.

“When you play against one of the top sides, they’re a very good side and it’s a good benchmark for us, we think we’re travelling well and so are they so it should be a good game.”
