FFSA Announce Chief Medical Officer

Football Federation South Australia (FFSA) is pleased to announce Adelaide United doctor and Wakefield Sports Clinic (WSC) partner Dr James Ilic, as its first chief medical officer (CMO).

Dr Ilic’s honorary appointment will provide, via FFSA, the Football Community with medical advice and education for players, coaches and officials.

FFSA’s chief executive Michael Carter says the appointment means the FFSA will now have access to one of the country’s most experienced football doctors and sports medicine clinics.

"Dr Ilic’s vast experience including a decade as team doctor to the Matildas, 11 seasons as doctor for Adelaide United and 7 seasons with the Lady Reds, makes him the ideal person to provide medical advice to South Australia’s football community,"

“Our partnership with WSC will ensure our community is exposed to the most up-to-date medical advice through regular information sessions, club visits and online resource material."

WSC provides medical, ortho, physio, podiatry, nutrition, massage and other services that cater to all athletes sporting needs.

“It is an honour to be FFSA’s first chief medical officer and I am looking forward to working with FFSA and the wider football community.” Said Ilic.

“We hope to improve the care of all footballers through injury management, injury prevention and return to sport rehabilitation strategies”

Players, coaches and referees will also have access to a wide range of guidelines including; concussion, hydration and heat policy and sudden collapse management .

As part of his role as CMO, Dr Ilic will provide medical feedback from FFSA to Football Federation Australia (FFA) and will continue assisting with the development of FFAs medical policy and guidelines.
