Preview:

West Torrens Birkalla and Campbelltown City go head-to-head in Round of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia.  A win will be key for both sides, with Birkalla looking to make ground on the three teams above them, and Campbelltown looking to pull away from the pack.

Birkalla have been the surprise packets so far this season, currently sitting in fourth position after finishing in eleventh at the culmination of 2014. But the strong form shown this season by the side comes as no surprise for midfielder John-Paul Cirillo.

To many people it’s probably a surprise, but to our playing group we think we’re sitting where we want to be; we’re a young squad and a lot of people underestimate us, but I think fourth is deserving.

“If you look at the squad from last year to this year, last week at Roxby there was only two players that played for us last year, so it’s a completely different squad with a lot of young and promising players.

Only four points separate Birkalla and their opponents Campbelltown, and as such, Cirillo has put this week’s fixture down as a must win.

“We’ll have to go into the game confident that we can get a result, I think Campbelltown are going to be more aware of the concerns about us, so we’re going to go there and play our game; we’re not worried, we’re actually excited that we’ve got Campbelltown and the chance to close the gap.”

Cirillo said the side would stick to the game plan that has payed dividends.

“We go out very attacking; we’ve got a very exciting, young group of boys.

There’s a good vibe around the club; we’ve got such class going forward, very energetic and skilful so I think Campbelltown have to worry about that. There’s a lot speed up front and it’s made defending a lot easier.”

Campbelltown missed their opportunity to take out top spot after a one all draw last week with Adelaide Blue Eagles, but captain Vas Parhas believes it’s still early days.

“It’s still early days in the season, so we’re not overly concerned with where we are on the ladder at the moment, but we’ll take the point from last week.”

With a tough run of fixtures coming up for the side, Parhas said the side needed to be on their game this week.

“What we’ve learnt so far this season is that if you’re not on your game against any of your opponents you’ll lose the game; we’ll approach the game as we would any other game, we know they’re a very quick side and they’ll definitely be up for the challenge.”

Parhas added that the side needed to stay tight at the back if they want to come away with the win.

“We need to maintain good shape; their strength is going to be their speed, they’ve got some speedy players, particularly out wide.

“If we’re to win the game, we’ve got to maintain our discipline and when we do go forward, make sure we hurt them because we’ve also got some speedy players.”
