Croydon Crowned Kings of the Premier League
Croydon Kings have claimed the 2014 South Australia National Premier League title after defeating MetroStars 2-1 tonight at Coopers Stadium.
Croydon who qualified for the Grand Final after finishing third – one point outside the top two –went on to score big wins over Adelaide City and Adelaide Blue Eagles, before defeating West Adelaide on penalties to advance to the final.
An early goal from MetroStars Scott Tunbridge had the game in the Klemzig sides favour, however a penalty granted to Croydon’s Mc Greevy saw the scores level at half time.
Croydon Kings Rocco Visconte netted a goal in the second half which MetroStars were unable to respond to, granting the Kings the Championship at the end of 90 minutes.
Visconte was suitably named Man of the Match following the red & whites first Championship since 1977.
Earlier, the second place in the Premier League competition for 2015 was earned by Modbury Jets after defeating Playford Patriots 1-0.
A goal scored by Aaron Westervelt cemented the sides elevation to the top flight competition in the coming season.
Modbury Jets will join Port Adelaide Pirates in the SA National Premier League after they claimed the 2014 NPL State League Championship in Round 30, on 67 points.
Congratulations to Croydon Kings on their 2014 SA National Premier League Championship and Modbury Jets on their elevation along side Port Adelaide Pirates to the Premier League in 2015.
