Avondale, Pascoe Vale play out bore draw

Avondale and Pascoe Vale have played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon in Round 16 of NPL Victoria.

In a match of few chances, neither side could clinch the all important three points.

The opening quarter of an hour showed promising signs from both sides, the most notable being a long range strike from Paco frontman Davey Van 't Schip whose dipping strike flew just over the crossbar.

12 minutes later, Pascoe Vale looked to have taken the lead as a Luca Santilli cross found midfielder Michael Ferrante who rounded the keeper and finished with aplomb.

But Ferrantes celebrations were halted by the raised flag of the referees assistant.

Avondales first chance of the afternoon fell just on 28 minutes as Jacob Colosimo found himself one on one with Paco custodian Alex Pavlidis.

A brilliant smother from Pavlidis meant the score remained 0-0.

The remainder of the half saw little more than a few hopeful long balls from both sides but for one exception from Pascoe Vale, as a stinging free kick from Ferrante flew through a sea of legs and just beyond the right post.

The second half didn't begin as lively as the first as both sides looked bereft of dangerous attacking options.

The opening 20 minutes of the second half gave referee Patrick Chaplin a fair bit to deal with as both Ferrante and Avondales Zoran Pajic were booked for their choice words toward the man in yellow.

The only real chance of the second half looked sure to give Paco the long awaited opener as another great cross from Santilli found Mat Lazarides at the back post.

However his half volley flew agonisingly wide of the left post.

The remainder of the match saw a two more bookings for Avondale as they seemed the more weary of the two sides to concede a late winner.

Next week sees Avondale travel to JL Murphy Reserve to face Port Melbourne on Friday night and Pascoe Vale face a tricky fixture against Northcote City at John Cain Memorial Reserve on Saturday afternoon.
