Brennan signs with South Melbourne

South Melbourne FC has announced the signing of South Hobart striker Andy Brennan ahead of the 2015 PS4 NPL Victoria season.

Brennan becomes the club’s second major signing in as many weeks, following the acquisition of former Bentleigh Greens star David Stirton.

After an injury-interrupted year in the old Victorian Premier League with Bentleigh in 2013, Brennan returned to Tasmania in 2014 and took the state by storm.

The 21-year-old joins South Melbourne after a stunning year for South Hobart, where he scored 25 league goals and played a major role in his side winning the NPL Tasmania (Victory League) Championship.

Brennan’s exceptional season also saw him take out the South Hobart best and fairest and he also finished second in the 2014 Tasmanian Mitsubishi Best and Fairest award for the best player in the state.

Brennan also played a leading role in South Hobart’s qualification for the 2014 Westfield FFA Cup and PS4 NPL Finals Series.

He is a versatile player across the front half of the ground and boasts elite speed, an ability to take on defenders and a thirst for goal.

South Melbourne football director Nicholas Maikousis was pleased to have the young talent arrive at Lakeside Stadium.

"Andy is a very exciting young talent who has been doing extremely well in Tasmania. We believe that with some hard work, he will be able to adapt to the game in Victoria and provide us with another attacking option for the 2015 season. He certainly caused us some headaches when we last played South Hobart and we look forward to him commencing his journey with us,” Maikousis told smfc.com.au.

Brennan could not contain his excitement at joining South Melbourne.

“I’m thrilled to join such a big club in South Melbourne. With the history behind the club and the people who are involved with it now, it looks to be an exciting prospect ahead,” Brennan told smfc.com.au.

Meanwhile, South Melbourne has announced that recently retired 2014 championship player Dimi Tsiaras will be the senior team’s new assistant coach.
