Miron departs Oakleigh; Papas appointed interim

Miron Bleiberg has stepped down as coach of Oakleigh Cannons after eight games in the PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria 2015 season.

The former A-League coach mutually parted ways with the club due to personal reasons.

"Said goodbye to Oakleigh board, players, and staff - time to head back home to Brisbane," Bleiberg wrote in a tweet on Tuesday night.

"My decision.

"We built a good team, and results are just around the corner.

"But with the pressure from home to come back, it's better for the club to bring someone local than for me to stay half committed.

"I wish Oakleigh all the very best."

Bleiberg's Oakleigh has had a tough start to 2015, with just one win, and two draws, in eight games so far this season.

Despite the poor start, the Cannons are still alive in the FFA Cup, currently sit outside of the drop zone in 12th spot, and have a game in hand on the bottom two sides.

Oakleigh officials said they were sad to see Bleiberg leave but understood his need to return to Brisbane.

"The OCFC family sincerely thanks Miron Bleiberg for his unparalleled commitment and devotion to the betterment and success of our club," a statement said.

"We were honoured for the exposure to a plethora of football knowledge that Miron provided to our club, both at a junior and senior level, and the embracing culture in which he provided it."

Oakleigh has appointed former VPL coach of the year Arthur Papas on an interim basis as head coach until further notice.

Papas had been coaching in India with Dempo SC in the I-League until last month.
