Hot weekend at NSW State Championships

As the cars and boats rolled into Coomba Park on Friday in preparation for this years AHCA NSW State Championships the population of Coomba Park grew by 120. The weekend started with a welcome BBQ hosted by the Coomba Aquatic Club with Local National Party member Steve Bromhead welcoming all sailors, families and volunteers to the area.

Saturday morning saw temperatures rise as the sailors readied themselves for a great day of sailing with the wind blowing nicely and all sailors having a great first day of racing. This year saw a lot of first time sailors competing and a few old favourites coming back to show the new comers how its done, with Zoltan Pegan being seen as the man to beat in the 303.
Doug Monk decided to try his hand at the Liberty this year instead of his usual 2.3 but was up against competition with Denis Critchley, Sam Lay and Mark Durnan also in the Liberty division.
The 2.3 division had our largest fleet of juniors competing in a long time, however they were in good company with the likes of Allan Jones, Len Snowdon and Allister Peek.
After a long day of Sailing everyone was ready to enjoy the regatta dinner being held at Coomba Park Community Hall, the dinner was attended by 113 people and was enjoyed by every one of the 113. Whilst we all enjoyed each others company, local band Girls Night Out had us thoroughly entertained and up on our feet.
Sunday morning brought a few weary sailors and soaring temperatures but the heat could not deter the enthusiasm of the sailors and the volunteers. The wind was fluky at times but came through in the afternoon, capping off a great weekend.
We would like to thank the members and their families of Coomba Aquatic Club for hosting the regatta and making it a very successful weekend. Special thanks also to Donna Britton for her organisation skills and enthusiasm for the event.
The overall winners for each division are as follows:
2.3 - 1st Allan Jones, 2nd Alyse Saxby, equal third Len Snowdon and Melissa Nelson but on count back Len placed 3rd.
303 singles - 1st Mark Durnan, 2nd Gerda Lambek, 3rd John Garbutt
303 Doubles - 1st Colin and Brad Alderton, 2nd Christine Elliott and Allister Peek, 3rd Gerda Lambek and Jeff Ibbotson
