After the popularity of last year’s Winter Training programme, with 12+ boats enthusiastically participating all through the cooler months, the NSW Flying 11 Association is organising to repeat the programme in 2018.
The success of Nationals in Manly will be followed up by next year’s Championships in the ever popular location of Port Stephens, great for families and summer vacations too. Not forgetting the first round of the State Championships closer to home in Vaucluse. So, for those who want to improve their skills before next season starts, once again this is a great opportunity.
The Association will nominate a pool respected coaches, reflecting the numbers committed to the program and skill level. Felix Grech, 2011 Flying 11 National Champion, will repeat as Head Coach, with collaboration from Alex “Chitty” Chittenden, 2017 NS14 State Champion. Each coach can manage 6-8 boats, provided they are at a similar standard.
We anticipate 8 days of coaching from the middle of May and up to late-August. This is roughly one day every second weekend, with a short break during the school holidays, and the coaching is expected to be hosted by different clubs including Belmont, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, Northbridge, Vaucluse and Middle Harbour to cover where most of the Flying 11’s currently sail.
Estimated cost is $500 per boat and we are discouraging people from opting in and opting out as we are convinced that the greatest improvements will come from being part of your small squad, training together.
Thank you to those that have already expressed their interest.
The dates are:-
May 13, 20
Aug 12, 26
Please book your spot on Trybooking
The Association reserves the right to limit numbers and to have a selection process (possibly a sailing trial) to determine the squads. Whilst we are anticipating a ‘top skills squad’ and an ‘intermediate squad’, we will consider a ‘learn to sail a Flying 11’ squad if there is enough interest.
