Club Championship Races 1 - 3

What a great weekend.  The weather turned on for us with light to medium East to South East, with gentle swell and minimal chop.  8 boats fronted the start on Saturday, which was located adjacent to Slade Point (a trap for a few players, who shall remain nameless).

The first race was a Windward / Leeward between two temporary marks, and the wind did the right thing and blew straight down the course.  Vivace led the way around the course, stretching their lead to an unbeatable distance.  Delher Magic followed at the front of the balance of the fleet, with Cool Change and Matangi not far behind.  Then a gap back to Mistery and Nemesis, then a further gap back to Unbealeievable and Checkmate.

With a delayed start on Sunday, a triangular course was set  with 2 laps around Slade Island.  Again Vivace sprinted into the distance, however this time, both Delher Magic and Matangi were close enough to put Vivace back into 3rd place.  In a breeze that was gradually abating, these boats were unbeatable, as the balance of the fleet dropped out of contention.

After a short break, it was back for another Windward / Leeward, this time a bit shorter due to the lighter conditions.  In more familiar territory directoy outside the marina entrance, it was Vivace again at the front, but again, Delher Magic were not far behind.  This time it was Unbealeieveable who made the best of the rest, coming in 3rd on corrected time, with Mistery and Nemesis not far behind.  Far from ideal conditions for Cool Change, who struggle in light conditions, they still out sailed Matangi, who were busy experimenting with Assymetrical Spinnakers.  Not the ideal day to try that out.

So, overall, after 3 races, it is Delher Magic from Vivace, then Matangi, followed by Unbealeievable, Mistery, then Checkmate, followed by Cool Change and Nemesis.  Not a great day if you sail a multi, but otherwise a fantastic weekend on the water.

Thanks to our sponsors - Great Northern Sports Club, who hosted the event from both inside the bar and out on the water.

Social Sailing at MYC 2018

Social sailing is an activity that the club runs on some Saturdays throughout the year. This is something the anyone can participate in.

Further details are available under Sailing in the main menu above.

We meet at the marina at 12 noon and are usually back in by 4. So if you want to join us contact Bob on 4956 2618 or and reserve a spot.

You don’t even have to have been out on the water on any sort of boat. You will now have the chance to go for a quiet sail on a yacht to get an idea of what sailing is all about. You will be taken out with an experienced skipper and crew and you will get a chance to try steering the vessel and trimming the sails. Or you can just sit back and relax.

The following dates are possible social sailing days.
