Race 1 25th Feb
Cool Change, Mistery and Matangi competed in MYC 2nd offshore race of the year and finished in that order. The course was shortened prior to the start in consideration of the forecast calm conditions for the afternoon. From the harbour it was a dead square spinnaker run in light breeze to Slade Rock rounding the mark into a shy reach out to St Bees, Mistery being the first to round after getting the best start. Cool Change shot off on the favourable reach while Matangi worked hard to pass Mistery however having got clear ahead and having opened the celebrations a spinnaker failure to Matangi gave back second place to Mistery. The course took the boats between St Bees and Aspatria around Keswick and then home keeping SECM to starboard. All crews were challenged by the fluky winds behind the Islands however once clear it was close wind sailing until the wind veered East and dropped. As forecast the breeze dropped out completely with Cool Change crossing in a near calm, Mistery crossed after persevering for 40 minutes to sail the last couple of hundred metres and Matangi retired after drifting past the harbour entrance with the tide.
