For something different, Duty Boat Vivace, together with volunteers Jim Garner and Geoff Osborne, set a windward / leeward course for the fleet that turned up on Saturday.  Greeted with 15 knot eaterly wind and choppy seas, the fleet headed out to a windward mark set approximately 1.2 Nautical Miles to windward, around a 3 lap course.

First out of the box and away was Vivace, skippered by John Rae, followed by Delher Magic (Greg Tobin) and Heart of Gold (Alistair Donaldson).  Not so fortunate was The Poacher (John Foster), who were squeezed out at the start and had to come back to restart.  However this gave them a chance to split tacks with the rest of the fleet, and quickly get back into the race.

Also, Cool Change (Bob Critchley), Mistery (Bill Hopton) and Heart of Gold all went too far out to the north of the course and overlaid the first mark.

Around the windward mark, spinnakers were set for the downwind leg back to shore for the first time.

After 3 laps, the fleet headed back to the finish at the entrance to Mackay Harbour. First home was Vivace, followed by Heart of Gold and Delher Magic.

On corrected time, Checkmate came in first, well ahead of Mistery and The Poacher.

Next race is a double header on Sunday 13 April, starting at 10:00.

Social Sailing at MYC 2018

SOCIAL SAILING

Social sailing is an activity that the club runs on some Saturdays throughout the year. This is something the anyone can participate in.

Further details are available under Sailing in the main menu above.

We meet at the marina at 12 noon and are usually back in by 4. So if you want to join us contact Bob on 4956 2618 or mazandbob01@bigpond.com and reserve a spot.

You don’t even have to have been out on the water on any sort of boat. You will now have the chance to go for a quiet sail on a yacht to get an idea of what sailing is all about. You will be taken out with an experienced skipper and crew and you will get a chance to try steering the vessel and trimming the sails. Or you can just sit back and relax.

The following dates are possible social sailing days.
